Bovada State Of The Union

Bovada, the largest U.S.-facing online poker site, has added two more states to its restricted list. Players in Delaware and Nevada may no longer create accounts. Players in these states that attempt to sign up at Bovada will encounter this message:

The State of the Union Address (sometimes abbreviated to SOTU) is an annual message delivered by the president of the United States to the U.S. Congress near the beginning of each calendar year on the current condition of the nation. The message typically includes reports on the nation's budget, economy, news, agenda, achievements and the president's priorities and legislative proposals. One of the most traditional and legitimately upstanding sportsbooks out there, Bovada does offer wagering to U.S. Bettors on its site, but there are restrictions in place. Bovada declines bets from players in New York, Nevada, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. Bovada accepts payments using credit cards, as well as Bitcoin. The problem is, while the first credit card deposit is free you will be charged anywhere from 5% to 9.9% thereafter. That's a huge sum of money and it's even worse when you consider that your credit card provider will add a cash transaction fee on top of that. Bovada is a great online sportsbook and they adhere to local state laws when it comes to determining the legal age to play on the site. Because of that, if your state says you need to be 21 years or older to bet on sports or be in a casino, you need to be 21 to bet on sports at Bovada. 94 votes, 151 comments. We are sorry. We do not accept registrations from your state. For more information please contact us.

The move does not affect existing players with a balance at this time. Players that already have an account and funds on deposit at Bovada in these states may continue to play, however, no new deposits will be accepted.

Delaware and Nevada join Maryland, New Jersey, and New York on the list of states where players are no longer welcome to make new accounts or deposit at Bovada.

Bovada stopped accepting players from New Jersey last month. It appeared that this was in response to the cease-and-desist letters sent to operators and affiliates by New Jersey gaming regulators in an attempt to stop unlicensed competition in the state. The move to restrict Delaware and Nevada falls along the same lines of leaving regulated iGaming states.

The Equity Poker Network, Winning Poker Network, and Merge Gaming, all left the three regulated U.S. states during 2014. Unlike Bovada, these three networks also banned existing players, forcing them to immediately withdraw any funds on deposit.
